How Citizens of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine can nostrifify their diplomas in Montenegro?

From the June 1, 2024, Montenegro has introduced new rules for the nostrification of diplomas, which apply to citizens of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. If you want to obtain a residence permit or work in Montenegro, nostrification of your diploma is a crucial step.

WHY IS DIPLOMA NOSTRIFICATION AN IMPORTANT STEP IN OBTAINING A RESIDENCE PERMIT?

To submit an application for a residence permit, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro (MIA) requires proof of your education. This proof can be:

• Nostrified diploma – A document that confirms your diploma is officially recognized in Montenegro.
• Proof of the start of the nostrification process – This is sufficient for submitting the application, meaning that the diploma is not yet recognized, but the process has been initiated.

WHAT IS AN ARCHIVE CERTIFICATE AND HOW TO OBTAIN IT?

According to the new rules, for your diploma to be nostrified in Montenegro, you must submit an archive certificate to the Ministry of Education. This document is an official confirmation of the authenticity of your diploma, and the process of obtaining it is as follows:

1. Contact the educational institution – Send an email to the school or university that issued your diploma and request the archive certificate.
2. Receipt and printing of the document – Once you receive the certificate, print it.
3. Translation by a certified translator – The document must be translated by a certified court translator in Montenegro.

DEADLINE FOR NOSTRIFICATION: After submitting the archive certificate, the Ministry of Education issues a Decision on diploma recognition within 14 days.

WHICH DIPLOMA SHOULD YOU NOSTRIFY?

The decision on which diploma to nostrify affects your minimum wage in Montenegro.

Choose carefully! According to the current law, if you nostrify:

• Primary or secondary school diploma – The minimum wage will be 600 EUR (contributions 76.89 EUR).
• Higher education diploma – The minimum wage will be 800 EUR (contributions 127.32 EUR).

IMPORTANT!

If the nostrification of your diploma has not been completed, it is enough to submit proof to the MIA that you have started the process. This allows you to immediately submit the application for a residence permit without waiting for the completion of the nostrification.
